Fresh off the reveal that Robert Downey Jr. will be suiting up for Spider-Man: Homecoming comes word that Michael Keaton will not appear in the film. It was previously reported he was in talks for a villain role in the film, but The Hollywood Reporter‘s Borys Kit reveals that negotiations never finalized. Keaton can next be seen as Ray Kroc in The Founder, the trailer for which was released today.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will star Tom Holland as your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He’ll be joined by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, Marisa Tomei as Aunt May, Zendaya as a character by the name of Michelle, with Laura Harrier (One Life to Live) and Tony Revolori (The Grand Budapest Hotel) set to play two of Peter’s other friends.
“It really is a homecoming,” leading man Tom Holland, who plays the webslinger, told the CinemaCon crowd during the film’s title announcement, “because, throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world.”
Spider-Man: Homecoming is scripted by Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein and will be directed by Jon Watts. Production is set to begin on the film this summer in Atlanta with the film swinging into theaters and IMAX on July 7, 2017.
