Michelle Fairley is returning to premium cable in a heralded role that’s part of an adaptation of a popular book at.
The Game of Thrones alum has joined the cast of Starz’s The White Princess, based on Philippa Gregory’s best-selling novel, the network announced Tuesday. Fairley will play Margaret Beaufort, the obstinate mother of King Henry VII, who clashes with her new daughter-in-law Princess “Lizzie” Elizabeth of York (My Mad Fat Diary‘s Jodie Comer).
The eight-episode White Princess will tell the story of England’s War of the Roses from the vantage point of its female figures. Per the official announcement: “As Margaret’s influence over her son begins to wane and Lizzie’s star rises, Margaret begins to unravel as the sins of the past and present weigh heavily on her conscience and her relations with Henry are at risk of potentially imploding.”
Since leaving Game of Thrones, Fairley’s TV roles have included Suits, Resurrection, 24: Live Another Day and The Lizzie Borden Chronicles.
