Microsoft issued a statement on Monday in response to last week’s lawsuit, denying that it illegally collects location data from its Windows Phone 7 users. The mobile operating system allegedly sends user location data to Microsoft’s inference.location.live.net site even if they say no when prompted. Microsoft said it’s investigating the claims in the complaint and takes privacy issues very seriously.
The software giant continued by saying it provides consumers with control over how location data is used. The data also cannot be used to identify a specific device or user. It can’t be used to identify an individual or track their movements from any images captured by the camera, the company added.
While the damages weren’t in the class-action lawsuit weren’t specified, its success could lead to Windows Phone 7 owners receiving a payment.
