Amazon has posted a public thank you in the Kindle Community part of their web which gives insight into the high demand for the new third-generation Kindle e-book readers. The company shipped “millions” of the e-readers in the past 73 days. It sold more Kindles in these 73 days than in all of 2009.
The redesigned Kindle offers a Wi-Fi-only model for $139 that has been credited with an uptick in both device sales and in e-book sales. The online retailer has already anticipated e-books outselling paperbacks next year.
Amazon has repeatedly refused to provide definite e-reader unit sales, arguing that it’s a competitive secret, but the results point to a sharp increase.
