MUTINY has just released a new timecode and record trigger box -T C-R/S- for the Sony FX3 and FX30. This compact unit can be mounted to a camera cage, plus there is an optional plate allows you to mount it directly on the camera body with enough clearance for the stock XLR handle unit. Due to the size of the FX3 and FX 30 ports and features had to removed, this meant a lack of a dedicated timecode port. This does not mean you are forced to use audio timecode (AKA Linear timecode ‘LTC’), you can use the “Multi” Micro-USB port located on the left side of the cameras to recode metadata timecode. Metadata timecode is more widely support in NLEs like Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere. Both of which, at the time of this posting, do not natively support LTC (audio timecode). So you must use a third party app to convert LTC timecode to metadata timecode before starting your edit. DaVinci Resolve, even in its free version, supports both metadata and audio timecode.
The MUTINY TC-R/S has a built-in 6″/15cm Micro-USB cable that connects to your Sony FX3/FX30 Multiport. The TC-RS features a 5-pin timecode input port and a Fischer 3 R/S port. Per MUTINY, the TC-R/S is compatible with Tentacle, Deity, Deneke, Ambient timecode generators to name a few. Plus the R/S Fischer port works with “every FIZ wireless follow focus system, including the ones from Preston, ARRI, C-Motion, Tilta Nucleus, Heden, etc.”
