Game of Thrones and Picnic at Hanging Rock star Natalie Dormer is set to play Gone with the Wind actress and double Oscar winner Vivien Leigh for a new limited series for FremantleMedia and Mainstreet Pictures.
The plan is to develop and produce a series which will focus on Leigh’s personal and professional successes and struggles. Each episode will center around the making of a specific project the actress worked on including Gone and A Streetcar Named Desire along with likely candidates like Caesar and Cleopatra, Anna Karenina and That Hamilton Woman.
The series will also explore her twenty-year marriage to Laurence Olivier, issues of mental health, career, female empowerment or the lack thereof, and love. The number of episodes to be made has yet to be determined.
Stewart Harcourt (Churchill’s Secret) will pen the script which will be partly based on Kendra Bean’s 2013 biography. The companies, who also produce American Gods, will have international distribution rights for the series which has yet to set a title.
