Native Instruments has upgraded their popular Session Strings pack of orchestral samples for Kontakt and the free Kontakt Player into a new package called Session Strings Pro, utilizing four separately-recorded 11-piece ensembles, recorded in two different mic positions to give a range of contemporary and traditional instrument placements. The package is aimed at allowing non-classical music creators to employ a tight string section ideal for pop, dance, soul and other styles.
The recording was headed up by longtime NI collaborator Thomas Koritke of E-Instruments, who collected nearly 50GB of samples before choosing the selection that allows Session Strings Pro to achieve maximum flexibility and fidelity using antique traditional instruments, right down to a “bow noise” parameter control — resulting in a total package over 20 times larger than its predecessor. The package adds true release samples and twice the normal amount of “round-robin” variation samples, and features 29 specific articulations and up to four velocity layers.
The Animator scripting tool is now fully customizable, letting users create individual phrases with exact timing and consistency. Separate production and performance presets allow the use of the package in either recording or performance settings, and the violin, viola, cello and brass sections can all be played individually, giving users significantly more control over string arrangements.
Session Strings Pro is now available and sells for $339 directly from the Native Instruments online shop or authorized resellers. Upgrade pricing for owners of Session Strings is $229.
