Deadline reports that Neil Burger (The Illusionist, Limitless, Divergent) will direct Kevin Hart (Think Like a Man, Ride Along) and Bryan Cranston (Trumbo, “Breaking Bad”) in The Weinstein Company’s upcoming remake of the hit 2012 French comedy-drama The Intouchables.
Simon Curtis (My Week With Marilyn, Woman in Gold) was previously in talks to direct the film from a screenplay adaptation by Paul Feig (Spy, Ghostbusters). Burger will direct from a new version of the script by Jon Hartmere. Filming is expected to start on January 15 in New York.
The original Intouchables, starring François Cluzet and Omar Sy, was about a wealthy quadriplegic who hires a street-wise minority from the projects as his caretaker. Written and directed by Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano, it grossed over $425 million in theaters worldwide in 2012.
