History Channel’s Vikings final season is debuting next month, but fans of the series will be happy to hear that won’t be the end of the story. Netflix has make an order for Vikings: Valhalla, a follow-up series set a century after the conclusion of the original and will be produced by MGM Television.
Most of the same creative team of the current show return with Stuart serving as writer and showrunner, while Morgan O’Sullivan and creator Michael Hirst are executive producing. Additionally, the series will shoot in Ireland like the original with many original members of the production team returning in all departments.
Hirst says in a statement:
“I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our ‘Vikings’ saga. I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix. Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new story-lines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history.”
The new series will dramatize the adventures of the most famous Vikings who ever lived – Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada and the Norman King William the Conqueror. These men and women will blaze new paths as they fight for survival in an ever-changing and evolving Europe.
