Google has announced a new bug introduced last month has caused it to speed up efforts to shut down the consumer version of Google+.

The bug was part of an update to one of Google+’s APIs and it left the data of some 50 million users exposed. Google says to its knowledge no one knew about or exploited the vulnerability. The incident convinced Google to move up the expected shut down of Google+ from August 2019 to April 2019.

Google had already announced plans to shutter Google+ for consumers, while leaving it open for some business users. Google suggests people delete or download any data still in their Google+ account.
