Nintendo has discontinued one of the older 3DS models.
The original 3DS and 3DS XL have already disappeared, but the rest of the family has remained in production until today. Today Nintendo said that the New 3DS will no longer be manufactured in Japan.
The end of the New 3DS comes as surprise since we are about to get the New 2DS XL. Your buying choices will soon consist of the 2DS, New 2DS XL, and New 3DS XL.
