Pixelmator Team has released updated Mac and iPad versions of its namesake image editor. The Mac update, v3.3.1, now supports pinch-to-zoom gestures on trackpads, fulfilling a popular demand. Resizing and scrolling options have been added to the Shapes, Gradients, and Styles palettes.
The code also implements a raft of bugfixes, dealing with problems such as missing scrollbars, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and crashes when exporting JPEG and PNG files. Pixelmator for Mac is $30 new, and requires at least OS X 10.9.5.
The iPad app, meanwhile, has seen its brushes revamped in several ways. They should all function better with styluses, as well as sport a new Opacity slider; the Retouch tool has gained a Brush Size control. Improvements elsewhere include easier object rotation — for instance through a precision Rotate slider under the Format/Arrange menu — and a vast assortment of bugfixes. These solve glitches with EXIF data, the Photo Editing extension, sharpening, launch stability, and many other components. The app costs $10 and requires iOS 8.
