After Apple forcing the company to create a web-based H L5 application to accommodate iPhone fans, the subscription internet TV service PlayOn has finally won approval for a native app which hit the App Store on Wednesday.
The free software connects subscribers to content from Hulu, Netflix, ESPN, Comedy Central and a host of other cable channels, along with Pandora. The native version now supports streaming over either wi-fi or 3G.
The service requires a yearly subscription to work, with plans starting at $40/year (or a one-time “lifetime” payment of $80). There is a 14-day free trail, and a free basic service that only supports Pandora music streaming (as well as content from the user’s own hard drive). The iPhone app works with any iOS device capable of running iOS 3.0 or higher.
