PlayOn has brought its mobile app to Android for the first time, it came to iPhone in September. PlayOn Mobile now lets users tap the service’s remote media library from a Google-running smartphone or tablet with a similar amount of control. The approach optimizes video both from traditional providers with web video, like CNN and Comedy Central, as well as digital-first services like Amazon VOD, Hulu and Netflix.
The interface is similar to the iPhone edition and needs an initial pairing over Wi-Fi, but it can work anywhere afterwards with 3G or 4G in addition to Wi-Fi networks.
The app is free to download by itself and will work for two weeks in trial mode. Subscribers need to pay $40 for the first year but can pay $20 per year afterwards. Device owners need at least Android 2.2.
