Rachel DiPillo (Jane the Virgin) has joined the Chicago Fire spinoff Chicago Med in the series-regular role of intern Dr. Sarah Reese. Dr. Reese is fresh out of medical school and “comes in with a lot of confidence because she’s been straight-A, super-proficient, accomplished at everything,” executive producer Andrew Dettmann said recently. “But everything has been book knowledge until know. She’s hit that spot that first-year interns have to go through. Now they have real cases that they have to handle. She may be in a little over her head.”
DiPillo — who most recently starred in NBC’s Cuckoo pilot — is the latest cast addition following the departure of Laurie Holden, who played an ER surgeon in the backdoor pilot and recently announced she is leaving the show. Torrey DeVitto (Pretty Little Liars) was added to the ensemble earlier this week, as pregnant ER pediatrician Dr. Lilly Manning.
Chicago Med premieres Tuesday, Nov. 10, at 10/9c on NBC.
