A new season of “The Voice” has finally arrived. After ending season 23 with the win of Gina Miles and coach Niall Horan in May, season 24 is starting off with a new lineup of coaches and hopeful new artists.
Returning to the rotating chairs are stars John Legend, Gwen Stefani and returning champion Horan. Being welcomed for the first time as a full-time coach is country star Reba McEntire. McEntire is no stranger to “The Voice,” as she has previously served as a “mega mentor” in the past. Now, she will be present all season, taking over for long-serving coach, Blake Shelton, who left the show at the end of last season.
“To fill Blake’s chair? Wow,” McEntire said, according to NBC. “That’s gonna be tough. He did a great job, and kudos to him.”
The premiere episode of season 24 will welcome back the coaches as they prepare for the first round of the blind auditions. The blind rounds are when contestants perform a song to the backs of the coaches. During the blind auditions, the decisions from the coaches are based solely on voice and not on looks.
The coaches hear the artists perform, but they don’t get to see them — thanks to rotating chairs. If a coach is impressed by the artist’s voice, he/she pushes a button to select the artist for his/her team, NBC wrote. If more than one coach is interested, the contestant chooses which team to join.
“The Voice” airs every Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on NBC.
