Overnight preorders of the iPhone 6 achieved “record” numbers, an Apple spokesperson claims. The company is not, however, offering specific figures. A similar statement has been issued by AT&T spokesman Mark Siegel, who says that preorder demand is higher than any time in the past two years. Apple and all of the major US carriers are believed to have sold out of their initial preorder stock for the 5.5-inch 6 Plus, resulting in shipping times stretching out to 3-4 weeks.
Preorders of the regular 4.7-inch iPhone 6 are still slated to ship on September 19th. It’s unknown whether the discrepancy is linked to limited production of the Plus, high demand, or both. In any case the situation is notable given the $100 extra a Plus model costs.
