Episodic iOS game République launched this week on the App Store, with much anticipation. Described as a stealth-action game, République explores the implications of governmental surveillance in the age of the Internet.
Episode One of République begins when the player receives a call from an unknown woman who is trapped inside an oppressive totalitarian state. Through five episodes, players will guide Hope through dangerous scenarios by hacking into the nation’s surveillance network.
Requiring iOS 7 to play, République is priced at $5.
Launched from a KickStarter campaign, République creators, Camouflaj, offered backers promotional codes to redeem the game from the App Store. According to Mike Futter from Game Informer, Apple limits the quantity of promotional codes a developer can distribute to 100, leading Camouflaj to have issues facilitating what its backers are entitled to.
Camouflaj is able to manually ‘gift’ the game to those residing the in US; however, Apple does not allow gifting to international users, so those outside of the US will receive a $5 refund upon purchasing the game themselves. Methods of facilitating a refund are currently under development.
