Insomniac Games has released a schedule for the beta on the official PlayStation blog.
Owners of specially marked copies of SOCOM 4 can participate on August 4, while PlayStation Plus subscribers will gain entry starting August 23.
Although Insomniac does not offer specifics, the studio says there will be other avenues for PS3 players to join the beta.
The beta will feature two maps based in Wales and Colombia and two match types: team deathmatch and chain reaction.
