Several leaked documents suggest T-Mobile is preparing to offer unlimited Wi-Fi calling and expanded information for caller ID, while the Gingerbread update for G2 handsets is listed as “coming soon.” The internal memos, which were posted by TmoNews, note that subscribers who have signed up with an Even More, Even More Plus or 4G Do More plan will be able to make calls over Wi-Fi connections without using voice minutes.
A separate memo indicates the company is preparing to change its “Caller Name” feature to “Name ID,” bringing additional information for unblocked numbers that are not already in the user’s contacts. The information is said to include a name, number, city and state for each caller. The service will eventually be expanded with an option to create “one touch address book entries” based on the details.
The G2 leak suggests the company is preparing to update the handset with Android 2.3 in the near future. Aside from the UI refinements, the release is said to bring “faster, more intuitive” text input and improved power management.
The Wi-Fi calling option is paired with a May 11 launch date, while the Name ID feature appears to be on its way on the 22nd. A date for the Gingerbread release remains unclear, though it will arrive automatically as an over-the-air update.
