There’s a new Dark Knight hitting the streets of Gotham City, and he may or may not be Bruce Wayne.
As publisher DC Comics announced this morning, June’s Batman #41 will see a major change in Batman’s status quo. The new direction will reflect the massive upheaval coming in writer Scott Snyder and artist Greg Capullo’s current “Endgame” storyline, wherein the Joker will deal his biggest blow to the Caped Crusader yet.
“I can tell you unequivocally, it is the boldest, weirdest, biggest thing we’ve ever tried on the book,” Snyder told Comic Book Resources. “I’m not being hyperbolic: You’ll see it, and you’ll be like, “I can’t believe they’re doing that.”
While DC is tight-lipped on what the post Endgame world will specifically bring, they’re promising huge changes. Indeed, the cover released for issue #41 showcases a drastically different Batman, smoking gun and all, that naturally gives more questions than answers about June’s Bat-titles. In his interview with CBR, Snyder said that he plans to stick around Gotham until at least issue #52 (synergy!), but could easily stay longer if he has the right story to tell.
