Shazam has updated its iPad app [App Store] to automatically recognize and tag songs, TV shows and music in adverts, without the user needing to prompt the app to do so. The background process, though not turned on by default, will add anything it can hear and identify to its home screen carousel, ready to be viewed at a later time by the user.
The redesigned home discovery screen shows what others are listening to at that moment, with users in the US able to see TV shows in the listings as well, along with charts showing the most tagged items. While TV show tagging is usable only in the US and in some cases in the UK, advertisement tagging will still be available in some other countries, and while it is functional on iPad first, it will be put onto the Android version in the next few weeks.
Maps will show the top tracks listened to in a specific country, while zooming down into a region will provide similar charts for individual cities or states. Also included is integration with Rdio, which allows users to listen to a track again or to sign up for an Rdio trial, and an improved Shazam Friends will allow users to comment on others’ tags, and to share through Facebook, Twitter, and Google+.
