Extending game play beyond the latest Civilization: Beyond Earth title, Firaxis and 2K are planning to bring Sid Meier’s Starships to the Mac, the iPad and Windows PCs. The game is a classic interstellar strategy title, borrowing from Civilization: Beyond Earth and expanding the experience for both games.
“What happens after we colonize our new home and eventually build starships to take to the stars? What has become of our long-lost brothers and sisters from the planet Earth,” said Meier in discussing the new title. “My goal was to create an experience that focuses on starship design and combat within a universe filled with interstellar adventure, diplomacy, and exploration.”
Exact launch dates haven’t been announced, but the companies say the release will happen “early this year,” which could suggest a late-January or early-February unveiling. Players must lead their starships across the universe to find and defend planets, ward off enemies, grow their own empire, and usher in a new age of peace, according to the company. Starships will feature turn-based combat, customizable starships and dynamically-generated missions.
