VoIP and video calling program Skype is now in version 6 for theĀ PC and Mac. Significant changes include Facebook chat integration and Retina Display support for OS X computers that support it. Users no longer need a Skype accounts thanks to the ability to sync contacts with Windows Live Messenger, Outlook.com, and Hotmail.
Users can log in using their Microsoft or Facebook accounts for Skype chat functionality. Microsoft recently also detailed the deep integration of Skype in its Windows 8 OS, due out at the end of this week.
Coming in the near future will be the ability to have chats in separate windows on the Mac app, which is already possible on the Windows app. More interesting is the promised ability to make calls, be they audio or video, straight to Windows Live Messenger contacts from Skype. This should arrive in the new few weeks.
