Sleepy Hollow star Tom Mison has been cast in a lead role in HBO’s adaptation of Watchmen. He’s joined by fellow newcomers Frances Fisher and Jacob Ming-Trent in the Damon Lindelof’s upcoming drama, based on the seminal 1986 DC comic series by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons. Details of their roles are unknown.
The news comes only days after Jeremy Irons signed on to star in the series pilot. Don Johnson, Lou Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens and Tim Blake Nelson are also part of the growing cast.
Characterized by Lindelof as a remix of the source material, rather than a direct adaptation of the comics, Watchmen is set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws: “Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.”
Mison is perhaps best known for playing Ichabod Crane on Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, in which the character from “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” is reawakened in the present day, where he partners with a cop to try to stop the apocalypse.
Watchmen is expected to premiere next year on HBO.
