The Peanuts gang is back on for another installment on Apple TV+. This time it’s a story featuring one of the often seen, but not often heard characters, Marcie.
Marcie is probably best known for her role as a helpful sidekick to the perpetual storm of chaos that is Peppermint Patty, who Marcie typically addresses as “Sir.” The cartoon, which premieres on Friday August 18 tackles the ups and downs of daily life for Marcie, a confirmed introvert who simply wants to help solve problems while hovering quietly in the background.
Introverts, or that part of the population who focus mostly on what is inside themselves, used to be labeled as “shy” or “weird” or “loners.” What modern science tells us is that introverts are far more complex, to the point that they process the world differently from their fellow humans and have brains that may even be far from neuro-typical.
Some different types of introvert personalities include: Social introverts who prefer small groups and quiet settings over crowds, Thinking introverts daydreamers who tend spend a lot of time in their thoughts and Anxious introverts They seek out alone time not just because they like it, but also because they often feel awkward or shy around people.
Marcie works as a Bagger Vance-like figure to her bestie Peppermint Patty, not only telling her which club to use as which hole, but also dispensing spiritual quips that keep her friend focused and grounded, helping Peppermint Patty to play her best game. Meanwhile, there’s day to day problems for the rest of Marcie’s school mates.
They have to deal with hallway traffic jams, cafeteria pizza shortages and the tragic horror of squeaky chalk noise. Ever the thinker, Marcy starts solving problems, gain the notice of her classmates and suddenly finds herself elected class president, where she might have to make big speeches about things or worst of all…talk about herself!
Tune in to find out if and how Marcie overcomes her fears and shows everyone that the quiet people behind the scenes aren’t only being the support structure, but they are also leaders, mentors and action taking problem solvers too. Although some elements of Peanuts are starting to feel like they might be more dated than timeless, Marcie looking up library information in a card catalog for example.
