Paramount Pictures is currently in development on Sonic the Hedgehog 4 ahead of the third movie hitting theaters Friday. The studio is eyeing a spring 2027 release for the latest installment in the series that is based on the popular Sega video game.
There has not yet been an announcement on who is writing or directing the fourth film, and plot details have not been revealed. Jeff Fowler directed the first three titles and helmed the third movie from a script by Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 sees the return of franchise staples Ben Schwartz as the voice of the title character and Jim Carrey in a dual role as Dr. Robotnik and the mad scientist’s grandfather. Rounding out the cast are Krysten Ritter, Natasha Rothwell, Shemar Moore, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter, while additional voices are provided by Keanu Reeves (Shadow the Hedgehog), Idris Elba (Knuckles) and Colleen O’Shaughnessey (Tails).
The first two films have collectively surpassed $725 million at the global box office. The franchise, which kicked off with the February 2020 release of Sonic the Hedgehog, has also spawned the Paramount+ series Knuckles, which debuted earlier this year.
