Support For Windows 10 Mobile Will End Later This Year

Microsoft support documents have revealed that support for Windows 10 Mobile will end on December 10, 2019. After that date, the platform will no longer receive any security updates or non-security hotfixes.

While no updates will be offered after December 10, Microsoft does say that automatic or manual creation of new device backups for settings and some apps will continue for three months, ending on March 10, 2020. Select services, like photo uploads and restoring a device from an existing backup, may continue to work for up to 12 months after the end of support.

As for what Windows 10 Mobile users are supposed to do now, Microsoft recommends that users move to an Android or iOS device.

We haven’t heard of any new Windows 10 Mobile devices, updates, or anything else for quite some time, so it’s not really a surprise to see Microsoft set an end-of-support date for the platform. Now Microsoft is focused on making apps for Android and iOS that get people using its services.

It’s always disappointing to see a platform going away. Not only does it mean less choice for consumers, but Windows 10 Mobile was a good-looking OS with some solid features.
