Although the character was played by Tohoru Masamune (Inception) in the 2014 Jonathan Liebsman-helmed reboot, Paramount Pictures’ upcoming comic book sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 has cast Brian Tee (The Wolverine) as its Shredder. Variety has the news, reporting that Tee will join the returning Megan Fox, William Ficthner and Will Arnett as April O’Neill, Eric Sacks and Verne Fenwick, respectively. Newcomers to the franchise include “Arrow” star Stephen Amell as the masked vigilante Casey Jones and Tyler Perry as scientist Baxter Stockman.
Created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laid, the Shredder is the turtles’ oldest foe, having debuted alongside Donatello, Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raphael in 1984’s “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” #1. The leader of the Foot Clan, Shredder is a master ninja who, in some iterations of the franchise, serves the trans-dimensional being known as Krang.
The original film, which grossed more than $485 million at the worldwide box office, also starred Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Danny Woodburn, Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub, although their involvement has not yet been confirmed for the sequel.
Set to be directed by Earth to Echo‘s David Green, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2 is set for release on June 3, 2016.
