The joint Apple and News Corp. iPad project The Daily has been pushed back just a week before it was due to go live. Sources claimed on Thursday night that the daily tablet news outlet had been set back to help Apple prepare its iTunes subscription plans. The AllThingsD tipsters said the app itself was prepared; it was already known to have been in a dry run phase where editors write only for the test audience.
The delay wasn’t cast as serious and was only ““for weeks, not months,” the tip said.
It’s unknown if The Daily will launch with a long rumored background download feature. The update would give iPads and other iOS devices a Kindle-like ability to download periodicals as they arrive, in the background. Readers could get even large downloads that would be ready in the morning or while they do something else.
