At Sony’s E3 Press Conference recently Sony revealed huge news- Tim Schafer is working on a remake of his classic adventure game Grim Fandango, exclusive for PlayStation systems.
Grim Fandango hit was first released way back in 1998 for PC, right about where people were getting tired of point-and-click adventure games. Not even the game’s amazing sense of style (you play a office worker collector of souls living in a Day of the Dead-themed afterworld) and incredible, hysterical dialogue was enough to convince people to pick it up, though ultimately, it was a bit of a flop. Despite its hard times Grim Fandango earned numerous game of the year awards and went on to become a cult classic in its time, even though it has never appeared in another version.
This PS4 and PS Vita remake from Double Fine was revealed during Sony’s conference as they read a letter from a 12 year-old girl…wait, a 10 year-old girl, who loved Tim Schafer’s games and wanted to see them on her magical PS4- until it was soon revealed that the author of the letter was Schafer himself.
Unfortunately no gameplay footage for the Grim Fandango remake was shown and a release date has yet to be determined.
