Toshiba stepped up the performance of its external drives this morning through the Canvio 3.0. The portable drives now use USB 3.0 whichimprove performance for large transfers on computers with the faster interface. Backwards compatibility keeps them working on USB 2.0 with both Macs and PCs.
On the inside, the drive has an internal shock sensor for anti-skip protection and ramp roading technology keep data safe during movement. Windows users get a handful of software features that include an NTI BackupNow EZ automated backup app with the option of 256-bit encryption. There is also a drive space slert monitor sends an onscreen update when storage space is running low.
Canvios come in 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities at prices of $120, $130 and $180 each.
