Toshiba has launched 4G-capable versions of the Portégé R700. The 13-inch ultralight’s new variants have a built-in WiMAX modem to get faster Internet access on either Clear or Sprint. The new models are all uprated as well with least a 2.4GHz Core i5 processor.
The series starts with the S1322W edition, which at $1,349 has the Core i5, Intel graphics, a 320GB 7,200RPM hard drive and a DVD drive, even with the three-pound total system weight. Switching to the S1332W at $1,699 brings in a 2.66GHz Core i7 and a 128GB solid-state drive.
Both Portégés are available today. To use the WiMAX connection requires living in an area with Clear or Sprint 4G service as well as a data plan from one of the two carriers.
