Twitter has today launched a web version of Vine, its video snapshot-based social network. The new interface is located at vine.co, and lets visitors access feeds for themselves and others, where they can like, comment on, or share posts. The web interface should also make it easier to share content with friends, since people can simply copy and send the appropriate URLs.
While most of the website’s features overlap with the mobile Vine clients for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, there is one unique option, called TV Mode. Clicking its icon in the upper-right switches the site into a form of slideshow, in which each post in a feed plays sequentially. Videos are enlarged, audio stays on, and accompanying text is displayed on the right-hand side.
Twitter is calling the website a “first step” towards a “richer, more enjoyable web experience.” What it has planned is unclear, but the current site only supports consumption, not recording. Twitter could enable recording through webcams in future updates.
