Panasonic has quietly started to send out applications in the US Jungle playtesters. The company doesn’t give significant clues as to what will be involved, but the massively multiplayer focus and an age check support beliefs that an online Battlestar Galactica game might be one of the first.
The service is known to be focusing on free games when possible and will likely get away from the retail model of paying just for access, according to a description of the service in the invitation.
“We’re committed to the cloud and web-based content, the free-to-play movement, social and community-based gaming, and new forms of digital entertainment,” Panasonic said. “We want to enable you to enjoy all of this – anytime, anywhere. So far, the feedback we’ve received from gamers who have experienced the Jungle has been quite inspiring.”
Panasonic hasn’t said how soon it planned to launch the Jungle. The clamshell gaming system is known to use Linux, output over HDMI and take SD cards.
