USA Network has given a big vote of confidence to Mr. Robot, renewing the new drama for a second season Wednesday just hours before its series premiere (10 p.m. ET/PT).
Mr. Robot stars Rami Malek (The Pacific) as Elliot, a young programmer who faces a major decision when the leader of an underground hacker group (Christian Slater, The Adderall Diaries) recruits him to destroy the company he is paid to protect.
USA says the pilot has been viewed nearly 3 million times on various digital platforms in advance of its TV premiere.
“We knew from the moment we read Sam Esmail’s provocative script, and witnessed the brilliant performances of Rami Malek and Christian Slater, that Mr. Robot is a stand-out series that is unlike anything currently on television,” USA president Chris McCumber said in a statement. “The overwhelmingly positive fan reactions to the pilot and the broad sampling of it, reaffirms our confidence in the series, and we’re excited to see where this timely drama will take us for Season Two.”
The second season, which will include at least 10 episodes, will premiere in 2016.
