Verizon is offering a new wrist-worn connected device for seniors called theĀ Care Smart Watch. The watch includes voice calling and texting features, and can read text messages aloud.
The wearer can make calls and send simple text messages, including calling for help in an emergency. It also includes timed reminders, for things like medication, and a step tracker for fitness.
A companion app lets trusted family members monitor the wearer’s location and set reminders for appointments, etc. The watch can be configured to only communicate with a “trusted circle” of up to 10 contacts, eliminating robocalls.
The watch is waterproof and has 2.5 day battery life. It’s available for pre-order starting today for $150, with either a black or lavender strap. Cellular service for the watch costs $10/month. Verizon is offering a $50 discount when customers pre-order along with a new smartphone. Quanta manufactures the device.
