Piaggio Group just unveiled an electric concept version of its iconic scooter the Vespa.
The company said it’s working with “the most advanced players in the sector” to develop electric motor solutions for its beloved two-wheeled vehicle. The Vespa Elettrica is still a work in progress: Piaggio Group said will need to translate the concept you see above into a final version of the vehicle in the second half of 2017.
“The Vespa Elettrica will, first and foremost, be a true Vespa, bringing the very latest in electric technology to a vehicle that will retain all the features that have been vital to its success,” the company said. “The style, agility, ease of use, and riding pleasure will be the same as the Vespa we have always known, with the addition of technological and innovative connectivity solutions.”
That’s pretty much all we know about the Vespa Elettrica, so stay tuned for more details.
The Piaggio Group said it sold 411,700 vehicles worldwide from January to September of this year. The company is the European leader of the two-wheeled segment with a total market share of 15.5 percent as of September, the company said. Its share goes up to 25.9 percent for the scooter segment alone.
