ESPN has rolling out its promised iPad version of free WatchESPN app. The new version gives live access to all ESPN channels but with a much wider canvas both to see the games and TV segments themselves as well as a much more visual browser for live content. ESPN didn’t mention an upgrade to the video quality, though it’s expected to take better advantage of the larger screen.
As before, access to the app is tied to what TV service a viewer has at home. Bright House, Time Warner Cable, and Verizon FiOS TV users get access to everyone who has a TV package with ESPN already included. Verizon users who just have DSL or FiOS Internet access still get ESPN3.
The updated version of the app is universal and works on iPhones and iPods as well. Any of the Apple devices needs to have at least iOS 4.
