Sony has opened up pre-orders for its Xperia Z2 Tablet in the United States, via its website and through some Sony Stores. Launched at Mobile World Congress in February, the waterproof follow-up to the Xperia Z1 Tablet will be shipping on May 4th, with the 16GB model being sold for $500 and the larger-capacity 32GB version selling for $600.
The Xperia Z2 Tablet uses a 10.1-inch Full HD Triluminos display, backed by a 2.3GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 with 3GB of RAM running Android 4.4. On the back is an 8.1-megapixel Exmor RS camera with a 2.2-megapixel front-facing version that is also capable of 1080p video recording, while sound is generated from Sony’s Front Surround audio technology that is said to provide better stereo sound. The 6.4mm-thick (0.2 inches) tablet also includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, though the versions being released at first will lack LTE and 3G access.
