Drive manufacturer WD has introduced My Passport Pro, the first portable, Thunderbolt-powered dual-drive. The peripheral is available in 2TB and 4TB capacities, and sports a Thunderbolt cable built into the case itself, which also powers the drive.
A user-selectable RAID function lets users choose data striping (RAID 0) for high performance or mirroring (RAID 1) for data redundancy. WD claims the drive is capable of transferring a 22GB high-definition video file in half the time typically required by a USB 3.0 drive working in RAID 0 format.
The My Passport Pro is available immediately through Apple, major electronics retailers, and online. Pricing for the 2TB My Passport Pro is $300 while the 4TB model is $430.
