Planning on leaving the New Year’s festivities to the amateurs and celebrating the onset of 2014 from the safety of you living room couch? Here’s a list of what’s on the telly to get you in the spirit:
ABC: ABC is keeping Dick Clark’s memory alive with two different specials tonight.
7 p.m. – New Year’s Rockin’ Eve Presents the 30 Greatest Women in Music is a really long title that is also a bit misleading. This isn’t a list of the 30 greatest women in all of music, but instead is a flash back of the top 30 female artists who have performed on various New Year’s Rockin’ Eve specials over the years.
9 p.m., Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest 2014, another wordy title. Ryan Seacrest hosts live from Times Square with the assistance of Jenny McCarthy who is the woman on the street. Meanwhile, Fergie hosts from Los Angeles. Musical performances include Pitbull, Blondie, Capital Cities, Miley Cyrus, Daughtry, Jason Derulo, Fall Out Boy, Florida Georgia Line, Ariana Grande, Jennifer Hudson, Icona Pop, Enrique Iglesias, Billy Joel, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Robin Thicke and The Fray.
The special will be interrupted by local news at 10 p.m., and then resume at 10:30 pm in time for the famous ball drop.
NBC: The peacock also has two different New Year’s Eve specials, though none of them are named Dick Clark.
7 p.m., A Toast to 2013! Hoda and Kathie Lee look back at the biggest stories of the year in this two-hour long special, including interviews with Jane Lynch, Michael Buublé, Pharrell Williams, Yvette Nicole Brown, Andy Cohen, Willie Garson, Padma Lakshmi, NeNe Leakes, Kelly Osbourne, Brian Williams, Matt Lauer, Savannah Guthrie and Al Roker.
9 p.m., New Year’s Eve With Carson Daly Carson. Daly will also be hosting from Times Square, assisted by Jane Lynch Named, Natasha Leggero and Anthony Anderson. Musical performances include Mariah Carey and Blake Shelton. Like ABC, the special will be interrupted by local news and programming. It will resume at 11:30 p.m. (thereby missing the ball drop for the East Coast, if that matters to you.).
FOX: 11 p.m., New Year’s Eve Live Mario Lopez hosts from Las Vegas (LIGHT Nightclub at Mandalay Bay on the Strip, to be exact), with performances by J. Cole, Krewella, New Politics and Panic! At The Disco.
CNN: 8 p.m., New Year’s Eve with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin Come for the Times Square coverage, stick around to find out what outrageous thing Kathy Griffin will do this year.
FOX News: 9 p.m., All American New Year Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Bill Geddy are also in Times Square. Their special will feature musical performances by Rodney Atkins, Blues Traveller and Susan Boyle.
CBS: Has no New Year’s Eve specials. Maybe that’s because most of their audience gets to bed by ten every night anyway.
Happy New Year and keep with us in 2014!
