xXx: Return of Xander Cage writer F. Scott Frazier has come onboard to pen the screenplay for the long in development Gears of War film at Universal Pictures.
Frazier takes over from Avatar sequel and Breakdown writer Shane Salerno to adapt the popular video last year. It’s not clear if Frazier is rewriting his work or starting over.
Set on the planet Sera, the game thrusts players into a battle for survival between humans and a race of creatures that surface from the bowels of the planet known as the Locust Horde. Players assume identities of soldiers on Delta Squad as they fight to save Sera’s inhabitants.
The games have generated $1 billion in sales since the first game debuted in 2006, and is considered Microsoft’s second biggest exclusive franchise behind only the “Halo” series.
Dylan Clark and Rod Fergusson will produce. The likes of Len Wiseman, Chris Morgan, and Billy Ray were attached at different points as director when the project was previously set-up at New Line.
